We have put together some information that will help you choose what to wear for your Family Photoshoot.

This family chose a shades of blue, complimented with white, for their Bluebell Photo shoot. This Outdoor Family Portrait was taken in the woods near The Vyne. Basingstoke Family Portrait Photographer.

General rules for all Family Photo shoots:

Choose 3 main colours and an accent colour - and stick to them.

White, Denim, Tan and Navy make a great colour palette, especially if you have boys... avoid bold patterns and large logos, these can be distracting and we want you to be the stars of your Family Portraits.

For example everyone could wear either denim or tan colour trousers, skirts or dresses...

The boys could wear shirts or plain t-shirts of either a combination of the other colours or a single block colour...

Girls could wear a pretty white dress or top... and accessorise with a tan colour belt or blue jewellery... the possibilities are endless...

But please avoid everyone wearing the same colour top and bottom half e.g. all in white tops and all in denim jeans, vary the colours from top to bottom if you can.

You will all co-ordinate beautifully and your family photographs will look great. Take the time to do your research I promise it will be worth it.

I have some great colour palette photographs on my Pinterest board that can help you choose what you would like to wear.

If you are really struggling with where to start, a suggestion would be to choose one outfit, it could be a girls delicate print on a dress or a boys checked shirt, look at the colours in the fabric and try to match those.

Avoid large bold patterns, they are distracting and we want you and your family to be the stars of your family photos.

Avoid Logos, they are also distracting and can age a family portrait, this style may not be 'in' for long.

What should we wear for a Newborn Portrait Session?

The same rules apply as above, but a newborn photo shoot is all about your baby. Muted, soft natural and neutral tones are always best, long sleeved t-shirts are great for Dad and strappy vest tops for Mum, try to match any siblings to your colour palette.

Advice about what to wear for your Newborn or Family Photoshoot, is all part of our personal service to you, we will take time to discuss your ideas in your Pre-session Consultation Meeting.
